PARKING APP

This project is a concept and its purpose was to challenge myself to think of a solution to the problem of searching for a parking spot.
Using a parking meter to pay a parking spot can present various challenges that goes beyond the user capabilities to solve the problem. Here is my analysys to this problem.

Parking iOS App

THE PROBLEM

Parking spots are a big problem on any big city. To have the necessary data, I picked New York, USA as a use case. New York has a department focused on dealing with transportation called Department of Transportation (DOT for now on).

According to DOT, these are the top 3 problems when using parking meters:

56%
29%
15%

Not Reading Credit
or Parking Cards

Not Printing
Parking Ticket

Missing, Bent or
Knocked Over

THE CUSTOMER JOURNEY

To understand how a user interacts with a parking meter, I defined both a Persona and a Customer Journey Map to complete it, based on the insights I mentioned above. Check out my conclusions below.

Mike Ferris
MIKE FERRIS
  • 30 Years Old
  • Architect
  • Lives in New York, USA
  • Single

Mike drives daily in New York to go to work and needs to use the parking meters in the city to pay for a parking spot. Mike uses his car to go to work because he doesn’t have public transportation near his house. Many times, Mike finds parking meters that aren’t working or have difficulties finding them on the parking lots. He hopes that one day, a better service will be provided.

MIKE'S GOALS & EXPECTATIONS
  1. Alternative when a parking meter is not working.
  2. Remind him that the parking time limit is near.
  3. Something that could help spare time searching for a parking spot before starting the journey.
